Summer Fun

There is no shortage of activities to keep BHA's young people busy and happy this summer. Over 300 free or low cost courses and events for 3-19 year olds are on offer as part of the Islington council's 'Heatwave' programme. They inculde events in parks and museums, ice hockey sessions, library fun days, camping trips, kayaking and archery lessons. Go to www.islington.gov.uk/heatwave for details or phone the council on 0207 527 2000 and ask them to send you booklets with details of the programme.

Programmes available range from Playschemes and Football courses to Summer universities for young people.

Playschemes

St Mary's Youth Club, at 302B Upper Street, just a few minutes' walk for most BHA tenants, is running a summer playscheme for 8 to14 year olds every weekday. Participants can take part in cooking, dance, computers, sport and day long outings on Fridays and Saturdays to theme parks, football tournaments and swimming pools.

Highbury Roundhouse is also running a playscheme at 71 Ronald's Road N5, for children aged 4 to 13. Activities include farm trips, canoeing, swimming, camping, bowling and seaside trips.

Summer University

10 to 19 year olds can join in the Summer University programme which covers everything from Caribbean cuisine and customising clothes to a circus skills class where you can learn trapeze, stilt walking, juggling and acrobatics.

Football fever programme

For those 7 to 14 year olds who haven't had enough of the World Cup, there is a day-long football course for boys and girls on August 25th at the Market Road football pitches.
